Hillside School Constitution 2013-14

Today, Hillside students met in the all-purpose room for a "School Constitution Ratification" assembly led by Mrs. Fitzgerald.

On Monday morning, 2 delegates from each classroom met in the library with Mrs. Eley.  Their job was to be a part of the 8th Annual Hillside School Constitutional Convention!  They carried their "classroom rules" poster and hung the poster along the library shelves.  Each delegate read their classroom rules aloud, and then the students were asked to decide which rules would make good "whole school" rules (following the Responsive Classroom methodology).

Whole-school rules were suggested by the students, and then narrowed down by voting and discussion.  (A majority vote of 18 or more hands had to be raised for a rule to be approved as a "whole-school" rule.)

Today, the student body voted to approve the following Constitution for Hillside School for 2013-14:

*Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated.

*Respect our environment

*Work hard, do your best and don’t give up

*Be responsible

The Pigeon Finds a Library! (and ActiVotes make learning fun)

Our students have been reviewing the library rules with the help of a *NEW* video created by Mrs. Eley and a few Hillside students in June 2013, using a Flipcam HD.  (Oh, and Mo Willems' pigeon may have helped too!)

Take a peek!

Old version here (SchoolTube)

After viewing the video, students use the ActiVote devices and class discussion to remember library procedures and rules.  We are LOVING the ActiVotes (clicker devices that "talk" to our Promethean ActivBoard and allow Mrs. Eley to see how many students are understanding concepts through multiple choice assessments)!
