Lauren Child Author Study

In first grade, we study author Lauren Child's use of collage and her funny Charlie and Lola books!

We set out to create our own collage in the style of I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato, a book in which picky preschooler Lola does not want to eat any food, so her brother Charlie renames the food.  For example, carrots become "orange twig lets" and peas become "green drops from Greenland."

First Grade African American Research

To support our learning about African American History month, first graders completed research about a famous African-American that they selected from a list.

Mrs. Eley introduced the lesson and went over the list of famous African-Americans provided so that students could choose which person most interested them.

Using the MacBook laptops and the library subscription to PebbleGo.com, the students (either with a partner or individually) logged into PebbleGo.com and began to record birthdate, why the person is famous, and another fact.
